Putting His Childhood Hobby to Good Use

As a boy I had learnt how to upgrade computers, as I was too poor to buy new ones for my computer-gaming passion. But God works in mysterious ways — I realised my childhood hobby could be put to use again!

Earlier this year, I was stirred by a call for IT volunteers when I found out about the old laptops that were no longer working at St Paul Methodist School (SPMS) in Timor-Leste. Due to availability of spare parts and the internet in Singapore, laptops are currently being sent back to Singapore for refurbishment…. READ MORE

Spreading Smile from Singapore

In my first year as a dental student, I joined 2 medical mission trips that opened my eyes to the dire oral health conditions of the locals in Cambodia. There were children with entire mouths full of cavities.

Being young dental students back then, there was very little we could do, so that sense of helplessness eventually spurred us on to start our own dental mission project…READ MORE

Going only where God leads

When I first began mission work, I was worried that I wasn’t learned enough; neither did I have many ministry connections. Many times, I would only have an impression from God of where I should go.

But the amazing thing is that, again and again, I experienced how God would open a way and prepare me well for the work. Hence, I believe that unless it is God who wants me to go, my labour would be in vain… READ MORE

A Teacher’s Love FOR THAILAND

My first mission experience at 16 years old left a deep impact on me.

I spent a week in Chiang Rai on a trip organised by Hakka Methodist Church, which is the church I grew up in.

On that Sunday in Dec 2000, after I was asked to give a testimony in a village church, about how I became a Christian, I felt God's presence moving me to tears… READ MORE

Missions at 70 years old. Why not?

I was 50 years old when I went on my first mission trip to Bihar, India.

I remember being in the office on a Saturday when my friend called and asked if I wanted to go with her on a mission trip organised by Church of Our Saviour’s Tanglin Fellowship.

As I was contemplating this, a song by Don Moen (I Want to Know You More) started to play. The words were vivid and they spoke to me… READ MORE

Making sense of what God is doing in Myanmar

Over the years, I have been on short-term mission trips to East Malaysia, Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

But more recently, I had the opportunity to work in Yangon, Myanmar for 3.5 years from 2016 to 2019. Currently, I also travel there regularly for work trips.

Back in 2016, I was posted to Yangon for a work secondment, and the Lord spoke clearly through certain signs and the words of several fellow believers to say that He wanted me to see what He was doing in Myanmar… READ MORE

The Blessing is found in going

One of my earliest mission trips was to Cambodia when I was 22 years old.

At first, my dad did not allow me to go. He was concerned about my health and safety as he felt that I was going to a developing country.

But I had such a strong desire to go that I wrote him a letter for the very first time in my life to ask for his blessings. Thankfully, he finally agreed!

That experience opened my eyes to see what joy is, and what it means to have simple faith… READ MORE

Missions is for all ages

I have been involved in two mission trips to Timor-Leste: the first was in 2019 and the second was in 2023.

When I was 14 years old, I went to Timor-Leste mainly to visit friends who were missionaries there.

However, as I spent time in the country, I was able to witness God’s love through the people.

I also encountered God during worship.

This spurred me to return to Timor-Leste, and to keep serving the Lord through visiting and helping the missionaries… READ MORE
