Paulโs purpose of writing the letter to the Romans was to provide full explanation of Godโs salvation plan for all humanity and his election of Israel. Despite sin, Godโs intention was to restore all of creation to Himself through Jesus Christ. He had chosen Israel to be the light to the nations. Israel was to be the minority serving the majority.
In Romans 9:30-10:21, there were 2 contrasting response to the good news of Jesus Christ.
Israel responded with a fake sense of righteousness. Although they had zeal for God, they lacked true knowledge. Paul regarded them ignorant of Godโs righteousness as they sought to establish their own righteousness through work.
In contrast, the Gentile responded with righteousness through faith in Jesus, proclaiming Jesus is the LORD.
In Romans 10:14-21, it reveals the missionary heart of Paul to share Godโs message to Israel. Yet, Israel continued being disobedient, obstinate and hardened in her heart.
Nevertheless, despite Israelโs rebellion, God continued to extend His grace to them.
In todayโs context, as we share the good news with others, how are we going to respond when we are being mocked or persecuted? Are we still able to take up our responsibility to shine the light of Christ to them? Are we able to respond the way God does- with patience, mercy and prodigal love?
