God’s Prerogative to Choose - Pr Richard Seow

Knowing that God chose us way before we knew Him has a great impact on our life. It is all at once reassuring and yet humbling. We are reassured because we are children of the Most High God.

Our sense of worth is not measured by our family background, our achievements in life, our material wealth, or our social status. It is based on how much God values us, such that He should choose to pick us out from the dirt, from our status as condemned sinners.

It is also humbling because everything is initiated by God. We are chosen not because of any inherent good in us, not because we have done better than others. It is not even our faith that has saved us. Paul said that faith is not from yourselves but rather a gift from God.

Further understanding God’s choice to make us His children compels us to live in a way that pleases Him to fulfil His purpose in choosing us. God chose us to demonstrate His glory, to make us do the work that He has prepared for us, and to declare His praises; in other words, to bear witness to Him that others may also come to know of Him. God’s grace is extended universally.
