In Matthew 24: 36â51, Jesus begins by giving us a warning that involves waiting. We do not know when God will come back but the point is to live in the knowledge that He will be back and we will meet with Him.
This warning is relevant because Jesus is coming back to make everything right and ALL of us must be accountable. The second coming instils a deep sense of hunger and longing for Christ in us. It shifts our perspective in life here.
We know that one day, all material things will fade away. We can face every setback, every challenge with hope because our hope and worth is not in what we achieve but what our King has done, secured, and promises.
Jesus also calls us to keep watch, to be drawn in and long for His presence. We are to be always ready to meet Him when he returns, and for this we need to have reverence for God and Godly wisdom.
Keeping watch encapsulates all of life. The main point of this passage is about WHO is coming back. It is about WHO we are serving. We are serving the One who gave up the comfort of heaven to come to earth. We are serving the One who gave up His life so that we may be forgiven. We are serving the One who gave up everything and became nothing.
