I Eat Salt More Than You Eat Rice! - Ms Clara Toh

Paul instructs fathers: “Do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.” Do not use your authority to crush your children’s spirits.

In the world, authority is about control. But in an authentic Christian family, authority is about nurturing. You cannot white-knuckle your way into building an authentic family. The root of provocation is often a heart that has not yet been fully healed by grace.

Once we have been raised with Christ, whom we call our Lord, we are to surrender lordship to Him and let Him dwell in us and be the Lord of our family. Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth.” This is your identity in Christ.

So what does salt do? It preserves, it seasons, and it creates thirst. This is what parents should bring into their homes. Parents whose lives are so seasoned with grace are the ones children naturally want to follow.

A parent who embodies the mind of Christ. A parent who apologizes. A parent who listens. That kind of influence is not found on the internet. It is only found in you by God’s grace. And that will be forever etched into your children’s hearts.

Let Christ be the center of your home. Choose to clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another and forgive one another. Put on love, and let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.

Let it begin with you and me. Be a channel of God’s peace in our families. Be the salt and light of Christ.
