Obedience to our parents reflects the obedience to the Heavenly Father. When we learn obedience to our parents, we learn how to obey God as well. Value their words, opinions, and instructions, because of who they are, no matter what they have done.

Parents should teach obedience. Teach it well, with the example of Christ in mind. Teach it to your children in a way that is easy for them to come to a place where they can honour you and honour God.

Practice compassion because children can see it. Explain the โ€œwhyโ€ to your children so that they can understand your reasons. Donโ€™t sacrifice your relationship for control.

To all of us, honour your parents, for this is God's command and it's through honouring that we will receive abundant life and enjoy long life on this earth. Obedience is an action. Honouring is an attitude. This means that God commands us to an inward and outward submission. These two submissions should be congruent and coherent with one another, just as in the way that Christ obeyed and honoured the Father.

God desires joyful obedience to Him, and that only comes when we learn to obey and to honour.
