Easter is known as the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus was arrested in Jerusalem after being betrayed by Judas Iscariot. He was interrogated, whipped, flogged, and finally crucified on the cross. His body was laid in the tomb, sealed with a heavy stone.
While it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to Jesus's tomb after Sabbath. To her shock, she found the stone rolled away. She ran quickly to inform the disciples. When John entered the empty tomb, he observed the linen cloth and face cloth folded up in a place by itself. A grave robber would never have left the linen cloth in this orderly condition. This detail showed that the clothes fell upon themselves, leaving them undisturbed as He rose from the dead.
As Mary stood outside the tomb, Jesus appeared and called her by name. Instantly, Mary recognized Jesus as she knew Him intimately. She became the first to witness Jesus alive from the grave.
The resurrection of Jesus is important for our past, present, and future. It is important for our past as He is the Son of the living God. He has the power to overcome death, to forgive wrongdoing, and to give eternal life. It is important for our present now as we have hope - since Jesus had conquered death, there is no situation in our lives too difficult for Him to overcome. It is important for our future as there is eternal life waiting for us - the greatest thing for us to cling to. When life is difficult, it gives us the courage to press on and persevere, trusting all things will be made right one day.
Because Christ is risen, Christ is risen indeed! Our past is forgiven, our present has hope, and our future is eternal life. Do you have this life in Christ?
