What does the Bible say about Giving? - Rev Benjamin Lee

Over 100 million people in the world live on $1 a day or less. We hear of people all over the world who face acute hunger and poverty — people whom the Lord cares about so deeply. What can we do about this?

The solution is in Luke 12:33-34: “Sell your possessions and give to the poor.” This helps the poor, but at the same time it helps us to focus less on ourselves and more on others — the people whom God loves so much.

If we set our hearts on earthly things, when they are gone our hearts will be broken, because “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Only what is done for Christ will last. So we need to store up treasures in heaven by doing what Christ wants us to do. We need to set our hearts on God.

One of the best ways to do this is to give. My hope is that we will give not to make ourselves feel good, but because it helps us to set our hearts on God, not on earthly, perishable things. In doing so, we give toward treasures that will last in heaven.
