In 2 Chronicles 1:7-10, Solomon prayed for wisdom. Following that, Solomon and the people built and dedicated the temple of God. From today's passage, we see that God responded to three things:
1. A Leader Who Loves God
God responded to King Solomon, a leader who loved Him deeply. All of us are leaders because God has entrusted something to each of us. The question is not simply, "What can I accomplish?" but rather, "What have You entrusted to me, Lord, and how can I be faithful to You?"
Just as Solomon was a leader who loved God, we are called to return to God in our leadership of whatever He has entrusted to us.
2. People Who Make Their Devotion to God Concrete
God responded to His people who made their devotion concrete. Today's passage calls us to humble ourselves, to pray, to seek God's face, and to turn from our wicked ways — then God will hear from heaven.
What would our return to God look like if it became concrete? Our mission is to love God, to love people, and to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Let us consider how we can live that out in concrete terms.
3. People Who Responded
Finally, God responded to His people who responded to Him. What is God asking us to do? By the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, how can we live our lives ready to serve Him?
Will we too return to God in our response to what we see around us?
