There are 5 mothers in the genealogy of Jesus mentioned in Matthew 1:1-6,16. They are Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Uriahโs wife (known as Bathsheba) and Mary. Their lives were messy and they all had real struggles. Having dealt with loss in their lives, the last thing in their mind was probably being clothed with strength and dignity. Yet, they all ended up in the lineage of Jesus Christ. Their past did not define their future and did not disqualified them from following the one true God. The amazing grace of God was extended to them, and they found acceptance and inclusion in Godโs family. Receiving the grace of God in life unlocked their journey to be women and mother of strength and dignity.
They did it by leaving the past behind. Things that were shameful, times of being ostracized by community and family - they let it go. They made a conscious decision to follow God and live in God. Even in the fire of challenges, they pressed into God. As a result, their relationship with a God grew. Their muscles were developed and were able to enter into the abundant life that God paved out for them.
Challenges in life are make us grow closer to God. It makes us depend on God. Challenges help to tone the character of his people and persevere in faith. In doing so, the people will then be able to see the faithfulness of God and laugh in days to come.
