How do we do that? We do that by recognising and then remembering that we love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19). Our love for Him is a response to His. He first loved us, and his love is independent of our love. His love is gracious, unconditional, steadfast, and sacrificial. Loving God, truly loving God with our whole being, is intrinsically tied to pleasing Him. If our love is centred on the “because he first loved us” truth, then wouldn't our deepest desire be to bring joy to His heart? Just as a child longs to please a loving parent, our love for God would naturally lead us to want to live in a way that is pleasing to Him. And how do we do that? Hebrews 11:6 states that "without faith it is impossible to please God." Faith is not something good or best to have. It is an absolute necessity in order for God to be pleased!
