Christians are called to be in full-time service to the Lord, regardless of the situations in life that He has placed us in. It's a call to be salt and light. To be salt means to act as a positive and preserving influence, slowing societal "decay" by bringing value to the situation. To be light means to push back darkness, bringing illumination to the situation. The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12) provide guidance on how to live out this calling.
To be salt and light in the world we live in, we look out for people struggling with hidden needs. God has given us unique gifts and abilities to serve one another and be good stewards of His grace. This requires understanding and calibrating our approach to be well-received. In secular environments, we can demonstrate God's love by being honest, kind, and going above and beyond. Doing a little more than expected can be a powerful demonstration of God's love.
At times, God may call us to long-term ministry. It's essential to stay focused on sharing God's love, God's Word, and making Christ evident in our lives. We continue to do God's work authentically and calibrated to His timing. In the midst of long-term ministry, we will face temptations and challenges that can cause us to compromise and lose our spiritual direction. Therefore, it's crucial to guide our hearts and remain consistent in our testimony.
