Paul really wanted to reach people (1 Corinthians 9:19-23). It is worthwhile to explore why Paul started a ministry in Corinth.
The first reason is because Corinth was a port city where a lot of traders went.
Secondly, Corinth had a Jewish community. One of Paul's strategies is always to go to the synagogue first and share the gospel for people to hear and respond. Corinth also hosted the Isthmian Games (an olden day sports event which was held 2 years after the Olympic Games), which an estimated 50,000-100,000 people attended every 4 years. Paul was a tent maker because accommodation was a felt need of the community. He also used language such as โboxingโ and โwrestlingโ (1 Corinthians 9:24-26) in his writings because he wanted to communicate to the heart of his audience who were athletes or sports spectators.
Thirdly, he had a team in Corinth (Silvanus and Timothy), who also connected with the people there.
What is a tribe that you would like to know more about? How can you know them, and when will we start praying for them? Who can come alongside with you to reach this group of people?
I pray that God will give us a people group to whom we can meet their felt needs and, through that, share the gospel and good news to them.
