Forgiveness is not only between us and the offender, but also between us and God. It affects our spiritual health and our ability to walk in God’s love and peace. Forgiveness is required for every true follower of Christ, because unforgiveness blocks God’s blessing.

God’s peace cannot dwell in hearts filled with bitterness, resentment, pride, and unforgiveness. The enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy, and when we hold on to offense, we allow the devil to take a foothold in our lives and experience bondage instead of freedom. Therefore, forgiveness breaks the cycle of pain.

Forgiveness begins with a willing heart to come before the Lord, acknowledge our hurt, and ask for His help. Through prayer and the Word of God, our minds and hearts are circumcised, leading to a transformed heart. With the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we receive strength, endurance, grace, and compassion. Over time, our prayers will shift from pain to genuine forgiveness toward the offender.

When forgiveness takes place, bitterness and pain are replaced with mercy and compassion. The believer then experiences freedom, liberty, and no condemnation in Christ.
